This piece was loosely inspired by Iaso, the goddess of recovery. When I think about healing, I envision a potter mending her cracked wares with gold. This Japanese method, referred to as kintsugi, often leaves the previously broken porcelain piece even more unique and lovely, in my opinion. In some ways it reminds me of stretch marks or scars, something most of us carry with us, literally or figuratively.
The work we do to heal ourselves and others (as best as we mere mortals can) is a powerful, exquisite thing.
Signed, varnished, and finished with an ornate gold frame. Canvas measures 20’x24” and frame measures 26”x30”.
